To some, brunch is a way of life. A Sunday privilege…no, a Sunday right, if you will. To me, brunch is a four letter word. To start eating eggs at noon or later and waste 3 + hours sitting in a restaurant and spending considerably more money than necessary for what I’m eating doesn’t make sense to me. Give me a diner, a hot cup o’ joe, and a waitress in a hairnet, and you have my ideal Sunday morning.

But on the occasion that I do fold to the wishes of my wife and our friends, there are some places I do prefer over others. And one of those gems is Bubby’s.

Located in what is undoubtedly an old warehouse space, and situated across from Brooklyn Bridge Park in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn, Bubby’s has been serving up its famous pies, BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, huevos rancheros, and arguably the best French Toast this side of the pond to Brooklyn and Manhattan’s young families, couples, and large groups alike for a good number of years now.

If Sunday morning/afternoon outings amongst the stroller brigade isn’t your thing try them for dinner instead. It’s considerably quieter – and even though the menu is smaller, they serve up piping hot plates of bacon wrapped meatloaf, hearty burgers, and savory mac & cheese. They also mix a mean Dark N’ Stormy – small, but tasty.

Bubby’s is also available as a wedding venue.  The space is beautiful with a great view of Manhattan, and catering options are superb. Bring your own music, and take your photos out by the river, and you’ve got yourself a day to remember.

Whether you decide to go on a Sunday morning, Saturday night, or the random weekday afternoon, don’t leave without trying one of their famous pies. It may be hard to leave room after the meal, but these are the sacrifices we need to make.
